MOTHER-DAUGHTER CIRCLES

With loving intention to witness and support our daughters' journey toward womanhood, and to nurture and strengthen the mother-daughter bond, Red Tent Louisville offers mother-daughter circles for girls age 9 and older. Scroll down to learn more about our signature offerings. 

How might your life have been different if there had been a place for you? A place for you to go . . . a place of women, to help you learn the ways of woman . . . a place where you were nurtured from an ancient flow sustaining you and steadying you as you sought to become yourself. A place of women to help you find and trust the ancient flow already there within yourself . . . waiting to be released.

​Puberty can be a time of great mystery and change for our daughters. Helping them to prepare for this experience by offering age-appropriate information in a setting that is supportive, positive, and shame-free is one of the most powerful ways to support their self-esteem and body sovereignty. Together, we will answer our daughters' questions about their growing, blooming bodies.

Mothers and daughters age 9-11 are invited to join together for this empowering mother-daughter circle. Each circle will be a dynamic blend of age-appropriate educational resources, hands-on learning, song, art-making, and story sharing. Each circle series culminates in a celebration ceremony.

The mother-daughter relationship is at the headwaters of every woman’s health. Our bodies and our beliefs about them were formed in the soil of our mother’s emotions, beliefs, and behaviors. She is our first and most powerful female role model. It is from her that we learn what it is to be a woman and care for our bodies.

​The journey from girlhood to womanhood is a wondrous and mysterious time in a girl’s life -- a period of change that presents a beautiful opportunity for mothers to strengthen and nurture the mother-daughter bond.
With a deep commitment to witnessing and supporting our daughters’ birth into womanhood, we will gather to honor the passage of the 11-14 year-old girl through stories, talking circle, and activities. Each circle will be a dynamic blend of talking circle, guided meditation, art-making, and story sharing. ​

If there is to be a serious advance in the status of Western women, we need a widespread rebellion by women who refuse to play along with society’s rigid body expectations any longer, and who are determined to raise their daughters with a positive and healthy body image. This is the final frontier of the women’s movement, and we are joining arms in solidarity to protect our daughters and heal ourselves.

​The Heroines Club: A Mother-Daughter Empowerment Circle by Melia Keeton-Digby offers nourishing guidance and a creative approach for mothers and daughters, aged 7+, to learn and grow together through the study of women’s history. Our circles focus on a different heroine each month, featuring athletes, inventors, artists, and revolutionaries from around the world – including Frida Kahlo, Rosalind Franklin, Amelia Earhart, Anne Frank, Maya Angelou and Malala Yousafzai, as strong role models for young girls to learn about, look up to, and be inspired by.

Offering thought-provoking discussion, powerful rituals, and engaging creative activities, The Heroines Club fortifies our daughters’ self-esteem, invigorates mothers’ spirits, and nourishes the mother-daughter 

relationship. In a culture that can make mothering daughters seem intimidating and isolating, it offers an antidote: a revolutionary model for empowering your daughter and strengthening your mother-daughter relationship. Each Circle will be a dynamic blend of talking circle, guided meditation, art-making, and story sharing. In addition to the monthly gatherings, you will receive regular online resources and prompts to continue your journey work with your daughter at home. Mothers will also have access to an exclusive online group for private discussion.
